ActewAGL understands the unique challenges facing data centre facilities today and offers an unrivalled infrastructure solution that is cost effective, environmentally friendly and will scale to meet growing electricity and cooling demands well into the future.
ActewAGL’s solution is based on a dedicated onsite natural gas-fired power station that acts as the primary source of electricity for the data centres. The power station is designed to be highly resilient, continuously maintainable and scalable to guarantee a dependable source of power.
By building the power station onsite, ActewAGL is able to eliminate energy losses associated with the transmission and distribution of electricity over the electricity grid. Two electricity grid feeds act as live standby sources of power rather than the traditional use of cold start diesel generators as backup.
The advantage of this approach is that there is no waiting for diesel generators to start before moving to the standby source of power. The cost saving associated with battery or inertia-based systems is significant and the investment in diesel generators can be eliminated completely.
The most advanced natural gas-fired cogeneration technology has been employed by CTC to provide an innovative solution. Absorption chilling technology allows ActewAGL to utilise waste exhaust energy from the generators to produce chilled water for cooling in the data centres.
The modern natural gas-fired cogeneration technology employed by CTC achieves near-zero emissions and the electricity produced by this technology is used to replace electricity that would ordinarily be produced by highly polluting coal-fired generators.
